The war took him away from home, music kept him close to his roots.
When war forces you to leave home – what remains?
’A small boy’s escape to the West’ is a documentary about an Estonian Taavi Kaaman,
whose childhood was tragically interrupted when he had to flee with his parents to a foreign
country in the midst of war. The foreign country became his home, but he never forgot his
roots.
Life in Sweden brought challenges, but also new opportunities.
Music, memories and Estonianism kept alive the connections with the lost homeland.
Come and watch the story of a man whose life conceals the fate of an entire generation.
After the film, there will be a discussion and mini-concert.
Present at the film: Taavi Kaaman, the main character, documentary film director,
cameraman Aili Suiste Rundin and Angelica Suiste. Discussion moderated by ESTO 2025
Sirle Sööt.
After the film, Taavi Kaaman will perform a few songs on guitar, including his own
compositions and Estonian folk tunes. Rickard Malmsten will accompany on bass guitar.
Come to the cinema! This story touches everyone.
