“Anyone who wants to have a refreshing holiday and pleasant days off will choose, out of all of the summer resorts, Narva-Jõesuu, our most beautiful and famous fresh air resort. There are more than 600 furnished cottages for rent, all private, in gardens or in the pine forest. Water therapies. An unparalleled bathing beach, Defence Forces orchestra, concert hall and restaurant, amusements, etc.” This was published in the Daily News (Päevaleht) on 5 June 1932.
It sounds pretty much contemporary, although there is no orchestra, no concert hall, and very few of the buildings of that time remaining. You can get an insight into historical Narva-Jõesuu at the Narva-Jõesuu Museum. The Ethnography Museum is located in the summer cottage where the family of the writer A.H.Tammsaare used to spend summers in the 1930s, and where the writer himself spent many summer days.
The guided tour will be in Estonian, with voluntary interpretation into English.
